Certification is only as useful as your ability to interpret it, so part of our service is translation. Cut, the first C, measures how well the diamond has been shaped and polished to return light. It is the single most important factor in visual beauty, and we recommend excellent or ideal cut grades for round brilliants wherever possible. For fancy shapes, cut grading is less standardised, so we assess length-to-width ratio, bow-tie effect, and overall symmetry directly.
Colour is graded D through Z for white diamonds, with D being completely colourless and Z showing light yellow or brown tint. For most clients, colours in the D to G range appear icy white, while H to J can look slightly warm but often set beautifully in yellow or rose gold. Clarity grades range from Flawless through Included, based on the size and visibility of inclusions. For most clients, VS1 or VS2 clarity is eye-clean at arm's length and represents strong value. Carat is straightforward weight, but visual size also depends on cut proportions and shape, so a well-cut 1.5 carat oval can appear larger than a deeper 1.7 carat round.
